Pragmatic Skills To Learn That Will Help Me Make Money
Life is all about learning new things. It’s seemingly universally understood across society that “if you aren’t moving forward, you’re moving backward”, or “if you aren’t growing, you’re dying”, or “if you ain’t first, your last” (wait maybe not the last one). Albert Einstein said, “Wisdom is not a product of schooling but of the lifelong attempt to acquire it.” Heeding his words, I felt inspired to compile a list of practical skills that I want to learn in an effort to become a more hirable candidate for potential business partners – and eventually earn myself a living.
Coding
Learning how to code would adequately prepare me to create value for any startup company immediately – the need for proficient programmers is large and doesn’t appear to be going anywhere. CodeAcademy is highly recommended online resource to learn how to code in various languages, and will be where I spend most of my time as I develop coding skills.
Google Analytics
I spent last month learning a few programs that will be useful at a business partner in my potential upcoming apprenticeship, a project you can read all about here. Two of those tools dealt with marketing exercises, and I was introduced to the process of reading and understanding various marketing analytics. I know that my experience so far is only the tip of the iceberg, but I was interested in the work I was doing and the information I was learning in my introduction to analytics, but I’m ready to take the next step and figure out how to use that information for a company’s benefit.
Photoshop
I’ve never considered myself to be much of an artist or creative mind – but I also think I haven’t given myself a fair shake. I’ve invested very little time and effort into creative exercises or practicing different skills – a habit that is coming to an end. Photoshop is an incredibly versatile tool that is useful for a variety of design/editing needs. Even if I struggle with a creative vision of my own, having the skills and know-how to operate photoshop and implement execute someone else’s idea is valuable in its own right and improves my prospects of landing a job.
How to competently invest in the market
I’ve always been taught that every adult should have at least two types of income: an earned income, and a passive income. The previous skills will all help me in eventually earning a salary at a company, but learning how to intelligently invest in the stock market is a good first step in developing a portfolio and building up a sizable passive income down the road.
To be completely honest, I’m barely scratching the surface of things I could learn how to do to improve my marketability and consequently lead to financial gain, but the ones listed here cover a wide variety of topics and areas of concern. I’m still shouldering a bit of uncertainty concerning which area of business I want to pursue, so covering a wide base of knowledge helps establish a groundwork for an assortment of potential job opportunities.
